From surreal to genius
30 December 2008
At 11.30 am
Today we discover the latest gem of the Prussian Cultural Institute and enter into the depth
of Surrealism at the Scharf-Gerstenberg Museum. Priceless works of art range from Goya
to Dalí and Dubuffet, including groups of paintings by Max Ernst, Paul Klee and René Magritte. In excess of 250 artists incite us on a journey into enchanted forests, scenes of the Underworld and a labyrinth of spaces, from where we surface just in time to join Bobby Bräuer’s afternoon tea ceremony. The New Year’s Eve Concert of the Berlin Philharmonics.
At 6.30 pm
The evening promises to be the crowning glory of the days’ precious moments with a visit to
the famous Berliner Philharmonie. To remember and celebrate the great and unforgotten
Herbert von Karajan’s 100th birthday, Sir Simon Rattle has arranged a programme that is
sure to be a spectacular concert event, paying homage to the genius of the great maestro.
Prior to the concert, courtesy of the management, you are invited to cocktails and canapés,
to tune you in to this most special of performances.
