Citrus fruits and princely treasures
The journey from Berlin to Klessen is made courtesy of Land Rover cars. During Dinner Bobby Bräuer will seduce your taste buds with his French cuisine, featuring aromas such as pineapple and chilli. Our speaker for the evening is Hans von Trotha - describing how princes and kings amassed great fortunes, his speech is peppered with fascinating anecdotes about the exciting past of particular treasures.
Saturday finds us in Wörlitz. Under the expert guidance of Uwe Quilitzsch we can marvel at the newly opened Pantheon – a miniature replica of the ancient Roman original, with a roof that can be fully opened. At midday, lunch awaits us on Amalia Island: Bobby Bräuer serves poussins with lemon, fresh salmon in wild herbs and many other delicacies. A little later we visit the Orangery of the Oranienbaum Manor House, plunging into the heady scent of thousands of orange petals, and discover how these trees, grown over hundreds of years, were cultivated to bear fruit in summer.
After coffee and chocolate cake with pink grapefruit, lemon tart and kumquat marmalade we return to the country estate. On the following day Cordelia, the head gardener at Wörlitz, shares her knowledge and enthusiasm of citruses with us. Under the guidance of Chef Bobby Bräuer we candy lemons, prepare a speckled trout studded with dill and swathed in lemon foam, and we bake the finest orange tart north of the Alps for lunch before we take the journey back to Berlin. |
