The secret diaries of Princess Louise
A sumptuous meal featuring artichokes, scallops, mediterranean flavours, young sardines and kid from the hills of the Piedmont sets the note for an interesting and indulgent weekend. Hans von Trotha explains the age of Enlightenment as the era of sensuality and, to illustrate this, takes us from the Baroque to the English garden.
On Saturday we explore some of the countless ancient monuments of the Wörlitz parks and gardens with Uwe Quilitzsch and walk in the footsteps of much-loved individuals and great historic figures: The Golden Urn, the Temple of Venus and the Rousseau Island. Luisium Manor House, the private residence of Princess Louise, awaits us with rooms full of ornaments, imagery and charm. Our sumptuously laden table stands in the princess's dining room, and today the crustaceans play the leading role: Bobby Bräuer conjures up Rosenberg shrimps, lobster in saffron, crab and Belon Oysters.
Back at Klessen Manor House, on Sunday morning Eilike Vemmer of the `friends-of-roses- club` in Hannover passes on some valuable suggestions for the treatment and cultivation of the ‘flowers of love’. A communal session with the chef de cuisine follows on seamlessly: we create a delicate parfait of rose petals, Bresson poulardes in a lavender stock and iced strawberries with candied meadow flowers. Following these heady summer delights we return to Berlin. |
